Welfare Reform

Queens Cross Supports SFHA Housing Benefits campaign

The SFHA is currently fighting for changes to be made to the Welfare Reform Bill. Queens Cross Housing Association is concerned about these changes, and we have signed up to the SFHA’s Housing Benefits campaign and tenants can do the same– you can register your support either online at www.sfha.co.uk or by going into the SFHA’s office and signing the petition.

The SFHA believes the changes will:

·         Affect the income of tenants in Scotland

·         Affect the income of housing associations and co-operatives in Scotland

·         Increase waiting lists for affordable housing.

Latest news, 14 Sept.: The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) gave a cautious welcome to the debate on the UK Government's Welfare Reform proposals, as the Bill reached its second reading in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 13th September 2011. However, the Federation stressed that heavy scrutiny of the Bill's provisions was required to prevent tenants and social housing providers being unfairly penalised by them.
